Bhubaneswar: Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, is scheduled to visit the Odisha capital on Saturday to attend the ground-breaking ceremony of the second semiconductor unit in the state, and review ongoing redevelopment works at Bhubaneswar railway station.
A compound semiconductor manufacturing facility will be set up by SiCSem Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Archean Chemical Industries Ltd, which has been allocated 23 acres of land by Idco at EMC Park, Infovalley, here.
The foundation stone-laying event will held between 10.30 am and 11.45 am in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
This is among the two projects approved under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) with a silicon carbide manufacturing facility being set up by RIR Power Electronics at the same park, with a total investment of approximately Rs 620 crore. The SiCSem facility, backed by a Rs 2,067 crore investment, will produce 60,000 SiC wafers annually and package approximately 96 million MOSFETs and diodes, serving key sectors like electric vehicles, renewable energy, and smart grids. It is expected to generate 1,000 direct jobs and numerous indirect jobs through the development of ancillary industries and service networks.
According to sources, Vaishnaw will hold a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan from 12.10 pm to 12.30 pm during which an MoU will be signed between the Ministry of Railways and the state government for accelerating railway projects and integrated urban development in the state capital region.
Following which, he will visit Bhubaneswar railway station for an extensive review of redevelopment works from 12.40 pm to 3.30 pm. The station is being transformed into a world-class, multi-modal transport hub with enhanced passenger amenities under the railways’ Amrit Bharat Station scheme.
It is worth mentioning here that the Centre recently announced to bear the entire cost of construction of 92 railway overbridges in Odisha, including 35 in Khurda district, 21 in Ganjam, 13 in Jajpur, 10 in Cuttack, three in Bhadrak, two each in Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Rayagada and Angul and one in Bargarh.
Earlier, the Centre and the state shared the cost of railway overbridges in the ratio of 50:50.
