Bhubaneswar: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has extended conditional approval to Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) for light and sound show at historical Udaygiri caves in Odisha capital.
The project, which had started a decade back, was stalled after ASI opposed digging in area of the Udaygiri caves without its permission. Following discussion between the Centre and state government, the ASI has set 22 conditions for the ITDC to stage the show.
As per the conditions, the ITDC must ensure that the sculpture and architecture of the caves do not get damaged by the light and sound show. It has to use latest technology for their protection.
The Corporation must take prior permission of the ASI on the subjects and screenplay of the programmes and cannot change it without permission. There must be a proper synchronisation of light, sound and visual and of high quality. It also must be ensured that no part of the historical place is covered or hidden during the show.
It must use the sound system of less decibel. No electrical or other equipment should be used to produce sound exceeding 40,000 hertz. The ITDC must run the show everyday and can organise special shows on the occasion of any national day.
The ITDC would bear the maintenance of the Udaygiri and pay the electricity bill for 5 years from the day of the start of the show. No digging is allowed in the entire campus of the site. Besides, adequate precautions would be taken to prevent fire mishap, the ASI stated in its conditions.
The ASI and ITDC would sign an agreement in this regard and the revenue earned from the shows would be shared by them with ITDC getting 60%.
