Asia Cup: India, Pakistan Share Points As Rain Spoils Blockbuster Clash
Pallekele: The weather had the last laugh in the Asia Cup blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan here on Saturday.
The arch-rivals got a point each thanks to a no-result, as rain prevented Pakistan from even starting their innings.
India, having decided to bat after Rohit Sharma won the toss, were rocked by Pakistan pacers spearheaded by the crafty Shaheen Shah Afridi.
The Indian batting effort was halted by a couple of rain breaks – firth in the 5th over and then in the 12th.
Left-arm seamer Afridi rocked India by castling both Rohit Sharma (11) and Virat Kohli (4). Shubman Gill (10) and comeback man Shreyas Iyer (14) were then sent back by Haris Rauf as India tottered at 66/4.
Ishan Kishan (82 off 81) and Hardik Pandya (87 off 90) lifted India out of the hole by stitching a 138-run partnership.
From 204/4 however, India were bowled out for 266 in 48.5 overs as the Pakistan pacers returned.
The three pacers shared all 10 wickets with Afridi bagging 4/35, Naseem Shah 3/36 and Rauf 3/58.
All their efforts, though, went down the drain in the end.
