Asian Para Games: Odisha’s Shuttler Pramod Bhagat To Face Nitesh In All-India Men’s Singles Final
Hangzhou: As India shattered records with an astounding 73 medals at Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China, Odisha para shuttler Pramod Bhagat and Nitish Kumar have assured another gold by advancing to an all-Indian men’s singles final.
The match will be played on Friday.
Bhagat along his partner, Sukant Kadam has already secured a Bronze medal in the men’s doubles SL3-SL4 badminton event and so also in the Badminton Mixed Doubles SL3-SU5 event with Manisha Ramadass.
Notably, Sachin Sarjerao Khilari won the 16th gold for India in the men’s F-46 shot put on Thursday with a New Games Record of 16.03m, while Rohit Kumar finished third with a best throw of 14.56m. Bhagyashri Madhavrao Jadhav won India its first silver medal of the day by finishing second in women’s shot put-F34, Sports Star reported.
Indian shooter Sidhartha Babu also struck gold in R6 Mixed 50m Rifles Prone SH-1, setting new Games Record with a remarkable score of 247.7.
It was shuttler Nithya Sre, who created history by winning the breakthrough 73rd medal, the highest ever medal tally for India in Asian Para Games, with a Bronze in women’s singles.
A total of 309 athletes from India, including 196 men and 113 women, are competing in the 4th Asian Para Games. Among them are seven para-athletes from Odisha – Pramod Bhagat (Para Badminton), Jayanti Behera (Para Athletics), Soundarya Kumar Pradhan (Blind Chess), Rakhal Kumar Sethy, V Ramesh Rao, Prafulla Kumar Khandayatray and Pujaswini Nayak (All Wheelchair Fencing).
