Babul Supriyo To Formally Step Down As BJP MP On October 19

New Delhi: Former Union Minister Babul Supriyo, who resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined Trinamool Congress (TMC), will formally resign as MP on October 19, India Today reported.

In a tweet, Babul Supriyo thanked Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for granting him time at 11 am to formally resign and said, “I will not hold on to the Berth/Perks/Salary of a MP now that I am no longer a part of BJP that I won the seat for.”

Babul Supriyo resigned as a minister of state for Environment, Forest and Climate Change in August. In a long Facebook post, he had announced his decision to quit politics. He had clarified that he would not join any other political party and continue to be a “team player”.

The singer politician said being dropped from the Union Cabinet in July was one of the reasons behind his decision.

“The question will arise why did I leave politics. Is there any link to the ministerial post that I lost? Yes there is. To some extent there is a link,” he had said.

Babul Supriyo’s alleged feud with West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh was also cited as one of the reasons that led to his decision to quit politics.

Months after he announced his decision to quit politics, claiming that he won’t join any other political party, Supriyo joined TMC claiming that he was coming back for a great opportunity to serve Bengal.
