Lucknow/New Delh: An IndiGo Airlines flight en route from New Delhi to Bagdogra was forced to make an emergency landing at Lucknow airport on Sunday morning after a bomb threat was reported onboard, prompting a full-scale security response and search operation, reported Hindustan Times.
Flight 6E-6650, carrying around 238 people including passengers, pilots and crew, was diverted to Lucknow as a precautionary measure shortly after the alert was raised. The incident occurred during the aircraft’s routine journey from Delhi to Bagdogra in West Bengal, according to India TV report.
Threat Triggered by Message on Tissue Paper
According to law enforcement officials, the alarm was triggered when a handwritten message was discovered on a piece of tissue paper in an aircraft lavatory indicating the presence of a bomb onboard. The exact wording of the note has not been released, but authorities took the report seriously and ordered an immediate diversion to the nearest major airport.
Security Response and Search Operation
Upon landing at around 09:17 AM, the aircraft was guided to an isolation bay — a designated area at the airport used for handling potential security threats. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, bomb disposal squads, and other security teams quickly surrounded the plane and began a meticulous search of the cabin, cargo hold and surrounding areas.
Passengers and crew were safely evacuated from the aircraft before the search commenced, and authorities are continuing to examine the plane and threat report to determine the credibility of the claim.
Passengers Safe, Investigation Underway
So far, officials have not confirmed the presence of any explosive device, and the situation remains under investigation. No injuries have been reported. Airport security teams are questioning passengers and reviewing CCTV footage as part of the probe.
