‘Banned’ Comedians Kamra, Faruqui Get Fresh Invitation; Will They Be Allowed To Perform?

Bhopal: If comedians Kunal Kamra and Munawar Faruqui were feeling low after being denied permission to stage shows in Bengaluru, there was good news for them.

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Monday invited the duo to hold a programme at Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh. But since Madhya Pradesh is a BJP-ruled state, it remains to be seen whether the administration will grant permission. Especially after both stand-up comedians were not allowed to perform in BJP-ruled Karnataka recently amid protests by a number of Hindu right-wing outfits.

“I will organise a show for you Kunal and Munawar in Bhopal. All responsibility will be mine. Only condition is that the subject of comedy will be Digvijaya Singh. Sanghis (RSS cadre) should not object to this!! Don’t be afraid!! Give the date and time as per your convenience. All your conditions are accepted,” Digvijaya tweeted on Monday.

Kamra Faruqui was in jail for a month earlier this year at Indore in MP after a BJP MLA’s son complained that the comedian had hurt religious sentiments.

Kamra recently joked that he was being seen as a variant of coronavirus.
