Digapahandi Block Development Officer (BDO) came to the rescue of a woman and her husband, who were attacked and looted in broad daylight near Anangpur in Ganjam district on Thursday.
According to sources, the 47-year-old woman, identified as Sumitra Gouda, had fallen off a moving motorcycle and sustained critical injuries after two bike-borne miscreants snatched a bag from her.
The incident took place while she and her husband, Santosh Gauda of S. Tikarapada village, were on his way to Berhampur on a motorcycle after withdrawing Rs 20,000 from Andhra Bank’s Digapahandi branch. The two miscreants allegedly followed them and snatched the bag containing around Rs 35,000 cash from Sumitra who was riding pillion.
The BDO, who was passing through that route, shifted Sumitra to Digapahandi hospital in his vehicle. The doctors there later referred her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as her condition deteriorated.
The miscreants, however, fled the spot before anyone could identify them.
Police investigation is on.
