Kolkata: As counting of votes in the high-stake West Bengal state Assembly elections is underway amid tight security, a neck-and-neck fight between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP has emerged as an early trend. Around 9.40am, BJP was leading in 93 out of 293 seats of the Bengal assembly. Giving a tough fight in a bid to retain another term, Trinamool Congress was ahead in 81 seats, according to the reports on ABP Ananda.
The Left Font and ISF were leading in two seats. The Congress was leading in two seats. The initial trends are based on the counting of postal ballots as well as a few EVMs that were being counted at the strongrooms across Bengal. However, poll analysts believed that it was quite early to predict the final outcome.
Mamata Banerjee leading in Bhawanipore
In the high-profile Bhawanipore seat of West Bengal, which is the home turf of Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool is leading after the first round of counting. The Trinamool supremo, Mamata Banerjee, is contesting against BJP leader, Suvendu Adhikari, in the south Kolkata seat of Bhawanipore. Banerjee has taken a lead by around 1900 votes against Adhikari after first round.
‘Hindu EVM’ vs ‘Muslim EVM’: Suvendu Adhikari
After the initial results started coming in, Adhikari addressed reporters. He claimed that the results reflect a ‘Hindu consolidation’ of votes in the state. He even went on to refer to the results by citing ‘Hindu EVM’ and ‘Muslim EVM.’ Meanwhile, Adhikari was also leading in Nandigram seat.
