Bengaluru: What began as a minor road scrape in Bengaluru’s JP Nagar area turned into a shocking act of violence when a couple allegedly chased and killed a 24-year-old food delivery agent after their car’s mirror was brushed by his scooter. The incident, which took place late on October 25, has led to the arrest of the couple after CCTV footage revealed that the fatal crash was intentional.
The victim, identified as Darshan, was riding his scooter with his friend Varun when the vehicle reportedly grazed the right-side mirror of a car near Nataraja Layout. According to police, Darshan stopped briefly and apologised to the car’s occupants before riding away. However, the driver, identified as 32-year-old Manoj Kumar, a Kalaripayattu instructor originally from Kerala, allegedly became enraged, turned his vehicle around, and began pursuing the two-wheeler.

CCTV footage recovered by the police shows Kumar’s car ramming the scooter from behind, throwing both riders onto the road. Darshan died on the spot, while Varun suffered severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Initially, the JP Nagar Traffic Police registered the case as an accident, but the footage later exposed the deliberate nature of the act, prompting a reclassification of the case as murder.
Investigators said Manoj and his wife, 30-year-old Aarati Sharma from Jammu and Kashmir, allegedly returned to the scene minutes later wearing masks to retrieve the broken car mirror and other parts to destroy evidence. “The accused tried to cover up the incident by picking up vehicle fragments from the road,” Bengaluru South DCP Lokesh Jagalasur said, adding that the couple’s car has been seized.
The duo has been booked under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code for murder and under other relevant sections for destruction of evidence. They were arrested and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. Police said both have confessed to being involved in the act, though the investigation is ongoing to establish the full motive.
The incident has sparked outrage across Bengaluru, highlighting how an everyday traffic altercation escalated into a fatal case of road rage. Police are now also examining whether the couple had any prior record of similar behaviour.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and avoid retaliatory road-rage acts, calling the case a grim reminder of how quickly anger on the road can turn deadly.
