Bhubaneswar: Well-known mathematician, educationist and former principal of erstwhile Ravenshaw College Prof. Umakanta Mohapatra passed away here on Wednesday night.
Prof. Mohapatra, who would have turned 94 on Saturday, was mourned by a multitude of students who he taught during the course of his long career.
His last rites were performed at Puri’s Swargadwar on Thursday night, according to his family.
An expert in fluid dynamics, Prof. Mohapatra obtained his PhD from Utkal University. He taught at Ravenshaw from 1967, before becoming a professor and Head of the Mathematics department in August 1982.
In January 1986, Prof. Mohapatra was appointed Principal of the college, and remained in the post till September 1988. He later became DPI-Schools, Odisha.
