Bengaluru: Atul Subhash, a 34-year-old techie who was found hanging in his Bengaluru home on Monday, blamed his wife, her family and even a judge for forcing him to take the extreme step in a detailed 24-page suicide note.

The purported suicide note, alleging  explicit instigation for suicide, harassment, extortion, and corruption, had four handwritten pages, while the other 20 pages were typed out. It also mentioned multiple police complaints filed against him by his wife and others.

Police on Tuesday said that they had allegedly demanded Rs 3 crore to settle false cases filed against him. “Brother of the deceased Bikas Kumar said that his wife’s mother, brother and her uncle had filed false cases against the deceased and demanded Rs 3 crore for a settlement,” news agency ANI quoted a police statement.

Initial investigation revealed that he was locked in a marital dispute with his wife with a case also registered in Uttar Pradesh. Police also found a placard hung at his residence that read, “Justice is due”.

A native of Uttar Pradesh, Atul was staying alone at Manjunath Layout after separating from his wife and working a senior executive for a private firm in the city. His wife was already receiving Rs 40,000 every month as maintenance, “despite working at Accenture and earning her own money”, and yet, she demanded Rs 2-4 lakhs more, according to reports.

Before taking the drastic step, he sent the suicide note via email to several people and shared it in a WhatsApp group associated with an NGO he was part of. He also pasted important details on a cupboard, including information about his death note, vehicle keys, and a list of tasks he had completed and those still pending, a police officer was quoted as saying.

Atul also recorded a video narrating his alleged harassment while regretting that the money he earns is helping his enemies grow stronger. “The tax I pay on my salary is helping the police and the legal system harass me and my family.. Which is why I feel I should end my life and cut the supply. They even had suggested that I should commit suicide.”

He also mentioned his last wishes, including his child’s custody to his parents. He also advised his parents and brother not to meet his wife and her family without camera. “My ashes should not be immersed till my harassers are punished,” he added.
