Agra: Another China-returnee has tested COVID-positive, this time in Agra. Three days ago, another person who travelled from China returned a positive test in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar.
Dr AK Srivastava, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Agra, confirmed to Aaj Tak that a 40-year-old man who travelled from China on December 23 has contracted the infection.
The asymptomatic person is in isolation at his Agra home. His sample has been sent for genome sequencing.
Health Department officials are trying to trace those persons who came in contact with the man.
The soaring COVID-19 cases in China and some other countries have triggered an alarm worldwide. The surge is said to be driven by the BF.7 subvariant of Omicron. Hence genome sequencing is vital.
The Central government announced on Saturday that RT-PCR tests will be mandatory for passengers arriving in India from China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Thailand.
Also, all international airports in the country have been directed to randomly test 2% of passengers on an aircraft.
