Bharat Bandh: Motorbike Rallyists Without Helmet In Bhubaneswar To Be Fined

Bhubaneswar: Traffic DCP Sagarika Nath on Wednesday said that agitators of Bharat Bandh taking out motorcycle rallies without wearing helmet in Odisha capital will be fined.

“The offenders will be identified through CCTV footages and issued challan. The process will take 2-3 days time,” she said, adding that law is equal for everyone.

The Traffic DCP said that their priority was to ensure that ambulance service was not affected due to the bandh. “No ambulance was stopped,” she added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Amicus Curiae of the Orissa High Court had filed a report castigating the Odisha police for not taking any action against helmet-less two-wheeler riders during a rally in the city on the Foundation Day of BJD on December 26 last year.

“All rules were thrown to the winds in this rally. The majority of the bike riders did not wear helmet. The State police instead of apprehending, them, gave protection to the members of the rally,” the report said.
