Mumbai: India will soon have another player in the ride-hailing space.

Bharat Taxi is set to be launched on January 1, 2026 to rival the likes of Ola, Uber and Rapido.

The home-grown, driver-owned zero-commission platform started pilot operations earlier in December in New Delhi and parts of Gujarat, according to an Economic Times report.

Now, Bharat Taxi is preparing for a full launch in the national Capital in the new year.

Operated by Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Limited, Bharat Taxi will be positioning itself as an alternative based on driver ownership and income protection.

A cooperative-run platform, Bharat Taxi follows a zero-commission model in its initial phase, and will allow drivers to keep the entire fare collected from passengers.

The cooperative, which claims to be the world’s largest driver-owned mobility network, has over 1 lakh registered drivers across cars, auto-rickshaws and bike taxis in Delhi and Saurashtra region.

Over two-thirds of registered drivers are cab operators, and the rest are auto-rickshaw and bike taxi drivers.

The Bharat Taxi mobile application has been launched, available on Android and iOS platforms, and has crossed 75,000 downloads.

The app has transparent fare structures, multilingual support, real-time vehicle tracking and 24×7 customer support, with safety as a key focus area.

Users can choose from AC, Premium, non-AC and XL cabs.

Importantly, the new platform promises pickups within two minutes and competitive pricing.

The minimum fare is Rs 30 for up to 4 km, Rs 23 per km for distances between 4 and 12 km, and Rs 18 per km beyond 12 km.
