Bhubaneswar: Deputy General Manager of Bhubaneswar Airport, Umakant Patel, has been arrested for allegedly deceiving an air hostess by hiding his marital status and maintaining an illicit relationship.
Sources said Patel was arrested by the Airport Police based on a complaint lodged by the woman. He was later forwarded to court.
Police said a case has been registered against the avvused under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
As per information, Patel was transferred to the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar four months ago after serving at Delhi Airport. During his posting in Delhi, he had allegedly developed an intimate relationship with an air hostess employed by a private airline, falsely claiming that he was unmarried. He is accused of establishing a sexual relationship with her on the pretext of marriage.
When the woman reportedly became pregnant, Patel allegedly threatened her and forced her to go for an abortion. Later, the air hostess was transferred to Bhubaneswar, where she continued her job. Patel, too, was eventually posted to Bhubaneswar and allegedly resumed his relationship with her.
The situation escalated when the woman found that Patel was already married and had a child. After confronting him about it, she was allegedly threatened, which led her to file a formal complaint at the Airport Police Station.
