Baripada: Two minor girls were allegedly gangraped while returning home after watching an ‘opera’ show with their friends in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
As per information, two persons have been detained in connection with the incident that took place in Rasgobindpur police station area of the district.
Police sources said the two rape survivors had been to watch a local ‘opera’ along with two other male friends. After the show, they were returning home when a group of five men chased them on motorcycles. The miscreants allegedly assaulted the girls’ friend and dragged the two minors to an isolated place where they committed the crime.
Aged around 13-14 years, the survivors are students of Class 8 and 9 and residents of Rangiam village in Rasgovindpur block of the district.
Though the incident took place on the night of October 22, it came to light after parents of the victims filed a police complaint on Friday.
Acting on the complaint, a search team tracked the men named in the FIR. The main accused and two of his accomplices have been apprehended. Efforts are on to nab the other two men, sources said.
