Bhubaneswar Airport Registers 18% Drop In Passenger Traffic In October

Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru continued to remain top 3 preferred sectors from Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Domestic passenger air traffic to and from the city saw a significant 18 per cent drop during the festive month of October.

During this month, 2,88,375 passenger movement was reported from Biju Patnaik International Airport here as against 3,52,671 recorded in October 2018, which is a drop of 18.2 per cent.

One of the reasons for the decline could be attributed to a corresponding 8 per cent drop in aircraft movement. While the aircraft handled by the airport stood at 2500 in October 2018, it came down to 2300 during the same month this year as some carriers went for route rationalisation, said an aviation expert. The sluggish demand in some sectors coupled with spike in airfares in some routes was also seen as the other reason for the decline in passenger traffic.

City wise passenger traffic recorded in October:
Bhubaneswar-Delhi 97,170
Bhubaneswar-Kolkata 56,549
Bhubaneswar-Bengaluru 55,917
Bhubaneswar-Mumbai 38,113
Bhubaneswar-Hyderabad 29,795
Bhubaneswar-Chennai 17,205
Bhubaneswar-Guwahati 9,057
Bhubaneswar-Jharsuguda 2,997
Bhubaneswar-Ahmedabad 2,240
