Bhubaneswar: Facing a massive shortage of ICU beds, the Odisha capital has emerged a COVID-19 hotspot with 400 cases being reported almost daily. With the affected tally crossing the 15,000-mark on Friday, the city has made it to the top 10 India cities with the most number of COVID-19 cases.
While Delhi and Mumbai are leading with 200,000 and 1,60,744 respectively, the others to have made it to the list are Chennai, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Mohali, Faridabad and Indore, reported News18.
India has already overtaken Brazil to take the second spot in the total number of COVID-19 cases worldwide. With a spike of 95,735 new COVID-19 cases and 1,172 deaths, India on Thursday reported a record jump in single-day cases as experts fear that the second wave of the pandemic has arrived, the report added.
Authorities claim that the spike in tally is due to the increased rate of COVID-19 testing across the country.
