Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s capital city Bhubaneswar celebrated its 70th foundation day in a grand manner on Friday.
Attending an event organised by the Rajdhani Foundation Day Celebration Committee in front of Odisha Legislative Assembly , Speaker of the Assembly, Pradip Kumar Amat unfurled the flag took the salute of a civilian parade, in which students of different schools and colleges participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Amat congratulated all the residents of Bhubaneswar and requested everyone to join hands for the development of the capital city.
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena, who was also present at the event, informed about the steps being taken by the BMC to strengthen different facilities including Wi-Fi, public transport system and providing more houses to slum dwellers
MP Prasanna Patsani and Committee president Pradosh Patnaik were also present.
On the occasion, 25 persons from various sections of the society were felicitated for their contributions to development of the city.
A series of events including a photo exhibition, cultural programmes and various competitions have been lined up for three-day celebration.
All important government buildings of the city will be illuminated with colourful lights to mark the day.
The foundation stone of Bhubaneswar was laid by first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru on April 13, 1948.
