Bhubaneswar: The Cyber Crime & Economic Offences Police Station of Bhubaneswar has successfully helped recover and refund a total of Rs 1,91,20,107 to victims of online fraud during January-March, 2025.
A Money Return Mela was organised under the leadership of Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for refund of the recovered money to victims, police said in a statement on Wednesday.
It has been observed that members of the general public are increasingly falling victim to various forms of cyber fraud, including digital arrest scams, investment scams, Telegram job scams, dealership frauds, APK/link frauds, customer care frauds, fake website frauds, matrimonial frauds, trading scams, and more. These fraudulent schemes have caused citizens to lose their hard-earned money, often amounting to lakhs of rupees.
In response, the Bhubaneswar Cyber Crime & Economic Offences Police Station of Bhubaneswar has taken swift and effective measures to address public grievances and recover defrauded money.
Legal actions through Criminal Miscellaneous Cases (CMC) have enabled the return of significant amounts to victims’ bank accounts. During the months of January, February, and March 2025, a total of ₹1,02,78,555/-, ₹43,66,492/-, and ₹44,75,060/- respectively were successfully refunded to complainants.
In addition to monetary recovery, proactive steps have also been taken to curb the spread of fraudulent content online. A total of 65 fake accounts on various social media platforms—including Facebook, Instagram, Gmail, WhatsApp, Telegram, and YouTube—have been identified and blocked. Efforts have also been made to assist victims in recovering or regaining control of their compromised accounts.
