Bhubaneswar: A man, who was critical after being allegedly assaulted at a drug de-addiction centre in Mancheswar area of Odisha capital, succumbed to injuries on Thursday.
According to sources, Sarbeswar Behera was grievously injured after being allegedly thrashed by three persons at the drug de-addiction centre at Bhotapada. He was undergoing treatment at Hi-Tech Hospital where he succumbed to injuries, they said.
The police arrested the three accused persons in connection with the incident on Wednesday on the basis of a complaint filed by the deceased’s wife Urmila Behera. The three were identified as Anirudha Ray (30), Ankit Rout (25) and Antaryami Mishra (25).
A wooden plank was also seized from their possession. It was used by the trio to commit the crime.
Sources said Sarbeswar was a habitual drunkard and his wife had got him admitted to ‘Sai Kripa’ drug de-addiction centre on January 27. The main accused promised to help and took Rs 7000 from her.
Later, she came to know that her husband was brutally beaten up by the accused and admitted him to Hi-Tech Hospital. She rushed to the hospital to find her husband admitted to the ICU who later succumbed to his injuries.
Based on a complaint by the deceased’s wife, police registered a case and produced the three in a court. They were later sent to judicial custody after the court rejected their bail pleas.
