Bhubaneswar Lawyers Wary Of Attending Court Regularly Amid Rising COVID-19 Cases
Bhubaneswar: The lawyers of Bhubaneswar Bar Association on Monday expressed apprehensions over attending court on a regular basis given the alarming rise in COVID-19 cases in the city.
The Association passed a resolution in this regard, requesting the Khurda District and Sessions Judge not to pass any adverse order till September 30 if any advocate, litigant, accused or witness was not able to visit the court due to the pandemic situation.
The resolution said most of the lawyers and litigants have not been coming to court for the past five months. Hence, it was practically not possible on their part to attend regular court with effect from Monday, it added.
Acting on an earlier directive by the Orissa High Court, the Khurda District and Sessions Judge had passed an order for the court to function normally from 10.30 am to 5 pm with effect from Monday, except during lockdown and shutdown.
