Bhubaneswar Market Building Vendors Seek Conditional Permission To Open Shops
Bhubaneswar: Four days after the BDA and BMC sealed Market Building, Unit II, here for violating COVID-19 guidelines, the vendors have sought conditional permission to open their shops.
In an application to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), more than 160 vendors of the Capital Market Association of the Market Building have appealed for allowing them to open the shops and given an undertaking that they will comply with the SOP of the Corporation.
The vendors have also agreed to take additional measures for crowd control inside the Market Building area.
BMC sources said the vendors’ applications have been received and are under review of the Commissioner. Though no decision has been taken on reopening the Market Building, conditional permission for opening the shops may be granted in a phased manner, they added.
The market complex and the adjacent area were closed in the presence of police force due to violation of social distance norms on June 12. The shop keepers were also fined for the violations.
Meanwhile, the BMC has clarified that the timing of Khurdha sub-division regarding opening of markets is not applicable to BMC limits. If necessary, prior information will be given by the authority.
