Bhubaneswar Petrol Pump Blast: Cops Bank On DNA Test To Identify Missing Persons
Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the explosion at a petrol pump in Bhubaneswar, police have sent the body parts found near the blast site to the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) for DNA tests to identify the missing persons.
Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi told this to the media on Thursday.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that four persons were engaged in transferring LPG into the underground chamber. Of them, one succumbed to his injuries at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack this morning while another critically injured person is undergoing treatment there. The third person is safe and police have talked to him. However, a fourth person has gone missing,” he informed.
Sarangi further said that the pit created by the blast will be thoroughly searched as some persons might be trapped under the debris.
He stated that LPG from the gas tanker has been completely withdrawn by the IOCL officials. The transfer of diesel and petrol from the underground container is underway and it will be completed on Thursday, he added.
Sarangi said the Commissionerate Police has registered a case under various sections at Capital Police Station. “Senior officers have been given the charge to probe the nature of work going at the blast site and the time of the blast,” he added.
