Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack on Tuesday rescued a kidnapped minor boy within six hours of the incident and apprehended seven accused, including two women.
Those arrested have been identified as Subhrakant Mohapatra (22), Somnath Das (21), Bicky Chinmaya Kumar Nayak (22), Sandip Routray (22), Sagar Nayak (21), Sujata Jena (19) and Nibedita Das (20). A motorcycle, a car, eight mobile phones and a used SIM card were seized from them.
According to police sources, Arta Ranjan Kalia of Panchagaon lodged a complaint at the Airfield police station, stating that his minor son went to school at around 7 am on Monday. By 10.30 am, his wife received a ransom call from an unknown number with the kidnapper threatening to harm the child if the family contacted police.
Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena immediately formed four special teams, which began simultaneous raids across different locations under Airfield Bhubaneswar), Nirakarpur(Khurda), and Ranpur (Nayagarh) police limits. The boy was traced to a rented house at Nirakarpur within the next few hours. He was rescued unharmed and safely reunited with his family.
Investigations revealed that the main accused, Subhrakant ,was a close acquaintance of the complainant and aware that the latter had received a large sum of money from a recent land sale. He plotted the kidnapping along with his associates to extort ransom, the release added.
