Bhubaneswar Records 149 MM Rainfall As Heavy Rain Batters Odisha
Bhubaneswar: After a prolonged dry spell, heavy and incessant rain lashed most parts of south coastal and north Odisha on Tuesday.
It started drizzling around noon and by late evening, Bhubaneswar was lashed by several rounds of showers. It continued to rain heavily till late into the night.
The rainfall recorded in the Odisha capital in the last 24 hours till 9 am was 149.4 mm with the highest of 179 mm at Balipatna, on the outskirts of the city. Apart from this, the nearby areas of the Odisha University of Agriculture Technology (OUAT) and KIIT University recorded 105 mm and 91 mm respectively.
Due to heavy rainfall, the low-lying areas in the city like Rasulgarh, Bomikhal, GGP Colony, Acharya Vihar, Jayadev Vihar, Nayapalli, Laxmisgar, Cuttack Road and Kalpana Square were flooded with rainwater.
The maximum rainfall in the state during the period was recorded in Sonepur with a record 170 mm followed by Talcher (108), Chandbali (92), Sambalpur (91.3), Boudh (75.2), Paradip (71.8), Cuttack (63.2), Angul (59.6), Phulbani (58), Sundargarh (53), Hirakud (51.6), Koraput (48.8), Jharsuguda (37), Puri (34.7), Keonjhar (33.3), Titlagarh (25.5), Balasore (25), Rayagada (19), Balangir (18.8), Gopalpur (18.4), Bhawanipatna (16.2), Nayagarh (15.1), Malkangiri (15), Chhatrapur (14.8) and Baripada (12).
