Bhubaneswar: The Odisha capital experienced the coldest November night in 25 years as the mercury plummeted to 12.9°C on Monday morning.
Bhubaneswar had recorded 13°C the previous day, coinciding with the lowest minimum temperature in November of 2000. Prior to this, the coldest November readings included 13.5°C on November 29, 2009; 13.6°C on November 25, 2018; and 13.7°C on November 26, 2017.
The city had recorded its all-time lowest minimum temperature this month at 9.7°C on November 30, 1970, followed by 10.9°C on November 26, 1968.
COLD WAVE SPELL
It was for the fourth consecutive day that the state remained firmly under the grip of cold wave and the minimum temperature is unlikely to witness any large change during the next 3 days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had also issued a cold wave warning for Cuttack, Jharsuguda, Khurda, Sundargarh, Angul and Kandhamal till Monday morning.
Daringbadi was the coldest places in the state at 7°C this morning, followed by Phulbani at 8°C. Jharsuguda recorded 9.8°C, while the minimum temperature dropped to 10°C and 10.2°C in Rourkela and Angul respectively.
In interior Odisha, Koraput recorded 10.8°C, Keonjhar and Bhawanipatna 11 °C each, and Nabarangpur 11.5°C. Similarly in western Odisha, Sundargarh recorded 11.8°C, Sambalpur 13.4°C, Balangir 12.5°C and Sonepur 13.8°C.
Cuttack also shivered at 13.2°C while Rayagada recorded 13.6°C.
