Bhubaneswar Students Build Robot To Help Doctors In COVID Hospitals

Bhubaneswar: The students of CV Raman Global University here have developed a multi-purpose robot to serve patients in COVID-19 hospitals.

The brainchild of the university’s Electronic and Telecommunication Department, the robot can sanitize as well as serve medicines to patients and take care of their other needs, thereby helping doctors and nurses to carry on with their duties without coming in direct contact with the infected.

Explaining the robot’s functioning, department head Priyadarsi Kanungo said it is fitted with a camera to help doctors scan patients without coming in direct contact with them. “The robot can live stream visuals from 500 meters. It also has an auto sanitizer and scrubber to keep the environment clean,” Kanungo added.

He said the department has designed three products to help frontline COVID-19 warriors such as doctors and other medical staff. “The first product is a multi-purpose robot which we have named Saviour. The others are a full-body sanitizer and an auto hand sanitizer, both of which are sensor based,” he added.

Kanungo said the robot is easy to control and functions smoothly. “This was developed within a month by the students to help in the fight against coronavirus. It will be soon available in hospitals and can be considered as another wonder of science,” he said.
