Bhubaneswar: The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) is set to organise a thematic programme on leopard conservation and biodiversity in Bhubaneswar, as part of a series of nationwide events showcasing India’s leadership in protecting its iconic big cats.
The Bhubaneswar event, coinciding with the observance of the International Day for Biological Diversity, will emphasise coexistence and biodiversity conservation in human-dominated landscapes, an official release said.
Leopards frequently share spaces near human settlements across India, making conflict mitigation a critical focus. The programme, which is a precursor to the IBCA Summit 2026, will focus on India’s five major wild big cat species – Tiger, Asiatic Lion, Leopard, Snow Leopard and Cheetah. It will showcase conservation efforts, challenges and cooperation between the central and state governments.
Odisha’s efforts in ecosystem restoration and active community participation in conservation will receive special emphasis during the event.
The thematic events, which will also be held in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Sikkim and Maharashtra, are being coordinated by the MoEFCC in partnership with state forest departments, the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), Wildlife Institute of India, National Biodiversity Authority, and other key stakeholders.
