Kataka: In a significant development in the probe into the death of woman IIC Beauty Mohanty in Odisha’s Kataka, police have recovered important digital evidence from one of her mobile phones.
According to Kataka Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Rishikesh Khilari, certain digital details have been received from the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL). These details are likely to provide important leads to the investigators in the case.
He said police are still waiting for the forensic analysis report of another mobile phone that belonged to the deceased officer.
The DCP further stated that three dedicated teams of police are currently working on different aspects of the investigation.
These teams are closely examining the post-mortem report, call detail records (CDRs), and other digital evidence to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the mysterious death of Mohanty, who was the Inspector In-Charge of Chauliaganj Police Station in Kataka city.
However, investigators have are yet to find any concrete clue indicating the reason behind the alleged suicide.
Police are also scrutinising the deceased officer’s bank transactions as part of the probe. So far, no suspicious financial dealings have come to light, the DCP said.
Investigators have begun questioning individuals who were in frequent telephonic contact with Beauty Mohanty in the days leading up to her death. Their statements are being recorded to establish the sequence of events and identify any possible links to the incident.
The Commissionerate Police are also in regular contact with the deceased officer’s family. According to the DCP, the family has not lodged any specific complaint or allegation in connection with the case so far.
Stating that a senior officer is supervising the investigation, Khilari said the probe is progressing smoothly and efforts are on to ascertain the exact cause of death.
