Bhubaneswar: The majority of Odias prefer searching for a life partner on their own, according to a survey by Oriya Matrimony, the leading matchmaking service for Odia people from Bharat Matrimony.
The study was based on the demographic patterns of lakhs of registered users and their life partner preferences.
It also found that the top cities in Odisha that witnessed the maximum number of registrations included Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Ganjam and Balasore.
Among other fascinating insights into life partner preferences, the survey reported:
#Age & Number: The user base comprised 29% women and 71% men. The average age of male registrants was 29 years and that of women was 26 years. Among female profiles seeking a match, 36% belonged to the 22–25 years age group and 37% belonged to the 26–29 years bracket. Among men, 34% was aged 25–28 years and 27% was 29-32 years.
#Self Searches: In the case of women, 60% of matrimony profiles were self-created. Among men, it was 74%. Only 7% of profiles were created by parents, and the rest by siblings and friends.
#Caste Barrier: Only a meager 7% of women and 10% of men were open to marrying outside their own caste.
#Job Profiles: Among men, the top professions registered on the matrimony site were business owners/ entrepreneurs, followed by executives and software professionals;. For women, most were into teaching or corporate executives.
#Educational Background: In terms of education, Arts was the most popular stream among the registrants. This was followed by technology and professional courses. As for qualifications, 27% women and 12% men prefer life partners who have a Masters degree or above.
#Mobile Searches: A whopping 91% of members on Oriya Matrimony searched for their life partners using their mobile phones.
