Bhubaneswar: The Odisha capital witnessed light rainfall on Friday morning while it was squally in the coastal districts of Balasore and Bhadrak.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warning for three interior districts of Odisha in the next 12 hours.
The national weather agency in a morning bulletin forecast heavy rainfall at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Jharsuguda districts in the next 12 hours under the influence of two trough lines — one stretching from Bihar to northwest Bay of Bengal and the other from the southwest Rajasthan to Jharkhand across north Madhya Pradesh and north Chhattisgarh.
Besides, there will be light rain and thundershower at one or two places in Deogarh, Sonepur, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Angul, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Jharsuguda districts during the period.
As informed by duty officer of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Sudhakar Mallick, some places in Bhadrak, Balasore, Angul, Cuttack, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Rayagada, Kalahandi and Gajapati districts will experience light to moderate rainfall on Friday..
He said that the rainfall activity will continue in Odisha for the next two days till January 4 after which there will be a sharp fall in the night temperature.
The rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours in Odisha was highest in Sonepur with 31.2 mm followed by Jharsuguda (18.9) and Baripada (13.6).
