Mumbai: Industrialist Nikhil Nanda has been booked in an alleged fraud and abetment to suicide case, according to reports.

According to ETV Bharat, Dataganj police in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun district have filed a case against Nanda, chairman and MD of Escorts Kubota, and other officials from the tractor manufacturing company.

The case, registered after a court directive, has reportedly named Nanda, the company’s Uttar Pradesh head, area manager, sales manager, a dealer from Shahjahanpur and three other officials as accused in the matter.

Nanda, the grandson of Raj Kapoor and son-in-law of Amitabh Bachchan, and the others have been accused of allegedly pushing a tractor agency owner to end his life.

A person named Gyanendra, resident of Papad Hamzapur village, filed a police complaint. His brother Jitendra Singh co-owned a tractor agency, Jai Kisan Traders, in Dataganj with Lalla Babu. After Babu was jailed due to a family dispute, Jitendra handled the agency alone.

As per the ETV Bharat report, Gyanendra alleged in his complaint that Nanda, along with Ashish Baliyan (area manager), Sumit Raghav (sales manager), Dinesh Pant (UP head), Pankaj Bhaskar (financier collection officer), Amit Pant (sales manager), Neeraj Mehra (sales head) and Shishant Gupta (Shahjahanpur dealer), put constant pressure on Jitendra to boost sales.

They also allegedly threatened to revoke Jitendra’s dealership licence.

On November 21, some company officials visited Jitendra’s place and pressurised him to boost sales. The day after, Jitendra allegedly took his life.

Jitendra’s family alleged that they approached the court after police failed to take action.

The ETV Bharat report further mentioned that

Jitendra’s father Shiv Singh has been quoted as saying that he was unaware of Nikhil Nanda’s identity and believes that the company is responsible for his son’s death. “I don’t know who he (Nanda) is. We want justice,” Shiv told ETV Bharat.

Gaurav Vishnoi, Dataganj police station in-charge, said that an investigation is underway.

Nanda is married to Big B’s daughter Shweta Bachchan, and the duo has two kids — Navya Naveli Nanda and Agastya N
