Mumbai: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted relief to actor-comedian Rajpal Yadav in the Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case, noting that the actor had made substantial payments to the complainant so far.
The court further refused to vacate its earlier order granting the actor interim suspension of sentence and extended the relief till April 1.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma observed that the actor was not absconding, noting that he was present in court and had made “substantial payment” towards the default amount.
“I don’t find any reason. He’s not running away. He’s here. He’s coming to court, and he has also been in jail. He’s already on bail; I’m not sending him to jail. He’s made some substantial payments. So I’ll not send him to jail, right now,” the bench said.
Last month on February 16, Rajpal was released from Tihar jail after being granted interim bail in the Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case.

It all started it all began in 2010 when Rajpal took a loan of Rs 5 crore from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to fund his directorial debut, ‘Ata Pata Laapata’.
The film turned out to be a dud at the box-office, sparking a repayment crisis and legal woes for the actor.
