Bike-Lifting Gang Busted With Arrest Of 3; 23 Motorcycles Recovered In Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: Intensifying its drive against bike-lifters, Commissionerate Police arrested three persons and recovered 23 motorcycles from them in Bhubaneswar.
Addressing a press meet, Commissioner of Police Soumendra Priyadarshi said the arrest was made during investigation into a complaint regarding stealing of a Royal Enfield bullet motorcycle and a Yamaha bike from Sijua area on November 4.
During investigation by Khandagiri Police, three accused persons were apprehended and total 23 stolen motorcycles seized from their possession, he said.
Further investigation showed that the accused persons have committed a series of motorcycle theft from different areas of Bhubaneswar, including Bharatpur, Airfield, Infocity, and Badagada.
They disposed the bikes at various areas of Ganjam (Khalikote, Goshani Nuagaon), Bouda (Purunakatak) as well as Nayagarh.
The arrested persons were identified as Prasanta Kumar Bhoi (28) of Ranapur in Nayagarh, Sunil Kumar Malla also of Nayagarh and Haraprasad Das (23) of Jankia in Khurda.
Further investigation is under progress, he said, adding that total 37 motorcycles have been seized by Bhubaneswar police in the month December- 2023 so far.
On December 2, Capital Police busted a bike lifting racket targeting two-wheelers parked near hospital & park areas with the seizure of 14 motorcycles from their possession.
Stating that the drive against bike lifters would continue with full steam, the police commissioner said that stolen motorcycles are often used by criminals and snatchers.
Priyadarshi said bullet motorcycles are often targeted by bike lifters as they attach a special status to it. Of the 23 bikes recovered in the present case, as many as 14 happen to be Royal Enfield bullet motorcycles, he said.
