Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will set up a Biotechnology Park in the Odisha capital in partnership with Bharat Biotech, said Science & Technology Minister Ashok Chandra Panda on Thursday.
He was addressing the valedictory session of Bio-Asia 2020, an event focusing on Biotechnology and Bio-industries, in Hyderabad.
An incubation centre will also established at the Institute of Life Science, the minister said.
Panda said that State Industrial Policy Resolution-2015 recognizes the biotechnology sector as a priority field and extends all fiscal incentives, special incentives, and other support measures.
To attract private investments in the field of biotechnology, the department has launched a new Biotechnology Policy.
Odisha possesses a unique model of connecting academics, industries, research, development institutions, and startups, he said.
The minister also described bio-resources in the field of agriculture and bio-materials, particularly in the tribal areas, marine and coastal regions of the state that will enable value addition and product development through biotechnology applications.
He sought cooperation from potential investors to build Odisha as the best technology business incubator.
The 3-day-long event brought together global biotechnology industries and pharmaceutical houses, hosted by the government of Telangana. ‘Bio-Asia 2020’, the 17th edition of the annual event, witnessed the participation of around 2100 delegates, representing 37 countries.
