Cuttack: In a new turn to the row over biryani feast by a group of rationalists during solar eclipse in Bhubaneswar, an advocate of Orissa High Court has served a legal notice to one of the activists.
Advocate Sandipan Mishra served the notice on rationalist Pratap Kumar Rath for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments during the solar eclipse on Tuesday when the latter not only partook the chicken biryani but also criticised the Hindu practices.
Rath has been asked to reply within 7 days explaining why legal action should not be taken against him. The advocate said if Rath does not reply to the notice within the period, he would file a case at the High Court.
Mishra said he would press the charges of deliberate intention to hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus by insulting their beliefs under various sections of the IPC.
It may be noted that Rath not only participated in the biryani feast, but also ridiculed the Hindu tradition of not having cooked food during the solar eclipse by uttering offensive words before the media. Besides, he had issued objectionable statements on the practice, terming it as bind belief and superstition, during a debate in a local TV channel on the day.
