Bhubaneswar: Senior BJD leader and vice-president of the party Raghunath Mohanty on Saturday resigned as the chairman of Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation (OLIC).
He arrived at the Naveen Niwas and submitted his resignation letter to the party president Naveen Patnaik.
Talking to mediapersons later, Mohanty said he had resigned from the post due to personal reasons.
To a query on contesting the Assembly election from his home constituency Basta in Balasore district, he said, “It is up to the party president to take a decision in this regard.”
Notably, Mohanty was removed from the post in March 2013 after he was arrested in a dowry torture case slapped by his daughter-in-law Barsa Swony Choudhury. The five-time Basta MLA since 1990 was also denied party ticket in 2014 polls.
However, he was reinstated in the party as a vice-president on March 16, 2018.
