Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday accused BJP of threatening its workers fearing defeat in Dhamnagar byoll in Odisha and urged Odisha’s Chief Elecrtoral Officer (CEO) to step up surveillance and ensure free and fair election in the Assembly constituency.
A delegation of BJD visited the CEO’s office in Bhubaneswar and submitted a memorandum. “The Odisha BJP has realised that it is going to suffer a massive defeat in Dhamnagar bypoll and has, therefore, intensified its electoral irregularities and malpractices,” the ruling party said in its memorandum.
The ruling party delegation alleged that BJP leaders and workers are verbally abusing and threatening local BJD workers. “It is morr shocking that women cadre of BJD are being targeted in this manner by Odisha BJP leaders and workers.
Urging the CEO to intervene in the matter, the delegation urged him to take steps for stepping up surveillance and monitoring in villages and wards of Dhamnagar in Bhadrak district to ensure that no untoward incident takes place.
“BJD wants a free and fair election which would strengthen democracy and we are confident that the people of Dhamnagar will choose the peaceful approach of BJD and reject the verbal abuse and threats unleashed by Odisha BJP leaders and workers,” it said.
