Bhubaneswar: The 12-hour bandh called by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanding arrest and resignation of Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged link in Mamita Meher murder case affected normal life in 5 districts on Saturday.
The BJP had called the bandh from 6 am to 6 pm in Balasore, Deogarh, Boudh, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts and 6-hour bandh in Bhadrak to press its demand.
The vehicular movement came to a standstill in the five districts where the BJP activists were found enforcing the bandh. They staged rasta roko by squatting on the road and burning tyres. The trains also stopped running at railway stations in Balasore and Bhadrak.
The BJP has been mounting pressure on the state government to remove minister Mishra after it was alleged that he had close link with the prime accused Govind Sahu in the murder of teacher Mamita Meher of Sunshine English Medium School in Kalahandi district.
On the other hand, the minister on Friday said he would not only resign from his post but also retire from public life, if the allegations against him are substantiated with evidence.
