Lucknow: Barely one-and-a-half-years after he was expelled from the BJP for being convicted of rape and other charges, former BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar’s wife, Sangeeta has been fielded by the saffron party as its candidate for the upcoming panchayat elections in the state.

Sangeeta will contest from Fatehpur Chaurasi seat on a BJP ticket in Unnao Zila Panchayat elections. Sangeeta had won the zila panchayat chairperson election in 2016.

According to party sources, state BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh and state general secretary (organisation) Sunil Bansal approved her candidature.

Sangeeta was given the BJP ticket, keeping in mind the influence that her family has in the area and the sympathy that they have earned after Kuldeep Senger’s arrest back in April 2018.

Kuldeep Sengar was convicted of rape, murder, attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy and criminal intimidation and has been sentenced to life in jail. He was disqualified as the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly member in February last year. He is currently lodged in Tihar jail.
