BJP Files Police Complaint Against TV Channel Alleging Bid To Defame Odisha Govt Through False Information

Bhubaneswar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lodged a complaint with the police against a private Odia television channel accusing it of presenting false information in an attempt to defame the Mohan Majhi government in Odisha.

Party leaders said on Sunday that the legal cell of the state BJP has filed an FIR at the Capital Police Station seeking action as per law against the TV channel for allegedly spreading fake news in a bid to tarnish the image of the elected government in the state.

Claiming that the TV channel is being run by Biju Janata Dal (BJD), a leader of the state BJP’s legal cell told reporters that at a video of an incident of abuse of a woman in Bengaluru was repeatedly shown by the channel.

It was claimed by the channel that the incident took place in Puri, he said, adding that the move was to mislead people by circulating false and baseless information.

The BJP leader further claimed that at least two BJD leaders were arrested around a fortnight ago for allegedly circulating false, misleading and baseless information on social media.

No reaction was immediately available from BJD and the Odia news channel on the allegation made by BJP.
