Bhubaneswar: Armed miscreants beat up the family members of a businessman and BJP leader and looted their house in the city late Wednesday night.
According to police sources, around 10 miscreants, who had their faces covered with masks, clothes and helmets, forcibly entered the house of the businessman, Dinabandhu Dash, at Bhotapada under Mancheshwar police station at around 2 am.
The miscreants tied Dash and his wife and daughter with a rope and beat them up during the 1.5-hour heist. The wife of Dash was injured as they hit her on the head with an iron rod.
Das in his complaint to the police said the robbers entered the house by scaling the boundary wall at the back side. While 5-6 miscreants came inside, others kept guard outside. They had with them a hammer, a revolver, an iron rod and a dagger-like weapon, he added.
Though the wife of Dash said they could not recognise them, the miscreants knew their names and other details. “The leader of the gang, probably in his early 30s, identified himself as Tukuna and claimed the police won’t do anything to him. He also said they had taken ‘supari’ (murder contract) for us but were sparing us,” she said.
He also threatened that if Dash did not stop his political activities, the entire family would be killed, she said. Before leaving, the miscreants took away gold ornaments worth Rs 30 lakh and Rs 3 lakh in cash.
On being informed, the police reached the spot and stared investigation. “We are investigating from all angles to get the details and will nab the soon,” a senior police official said.
