Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday demanded a thorough probe into the alleged seizure of liquor and ganja from the vehicle of Baripada MLA Prakash Soren three days ago in Bhubaneswar.
Alleging inaction on the part of the police, the opposition party claimed that liquor and ganja had been seized from the vehicle after it met with an accident near NALCO Square in the capital city on June 30.
Addressing a press meet in Bhubaneswar, senior BJD leader and former deputy speaker Sanand Marndi said though liquor and ganga had been found in the vehicle, no case has been registered under the NDPS Act against the BJP legislator.
Alleging that the BJP leader’s vehicle was being used for smuggling of cannabis and alcohol, he said action should be taken the legislator’s son and his aides who were travelling in the SUV when the mishap took place.
Accusing the state government of shielding the BJP MLA, the BJD leader claimed that eyewitnesses at the spot had discovered cannabis and bottles of alcohol in the SUV after the mishap.
It the government fails to take concrete step in the case BJD would launch an agitation, he said.
However, MLA Prakash Soren has denied the allegations and said his son, who does not drink, and his friend were in the vehicle, and claims about liquor and ganja are false.
