Bhubaneswar: Firmly ruling out BJP-BJD alliance for next polls in Odisha, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi on Monday said the Naveen Patnaik government should seek fresh mandate after working for people for full five-year-term instead of going for early Assembly election.
“There is no question of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) entering into electoral alliance with Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha. Both the political parties are set to fight each other in the next polls,” the BJP MP told reporters.
Stating that BJP workers have been working hard for the people across the country, the Lok Sabha member said two Union Ministers – Bhupender Yadav and Arju Munda – during their Odisha visit have already made it clear that the party will not have any truck with BJD for the next elections in the state.
“Our party is fully prepared to take on the ruling BJD in the next elections on its own,” she said.
Regarding talks about the likelihood of early polls in the state, the BJP leader asserted that BJP is ready to face the election in Odisha anytime. “If the elections are advanced, we are ready to fight the BJD,” she said.
During his visit to Odisha recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asked the party workers to ‘expose’ the failure of the BJD government in the state during the last 23 years, Sarangi said.
Seeking to know as to why the BJD should be interested in going for early elections, the lawmaker said the regional party has got a mandate for five years and it must work for the people for the full term instead of seeking early polls. ”BJD should go to the people with its report card after completing full term,” she said.
Responding to Sarangi’s statement, BJD MLA Parsuram Dhada said the regional party is also ready to go it alone to the polls instead of forging alliance with BJP.
He also wondered as to why and on what basis there is talk about early elections. Moreover, early elections have been held in the past whenever required, he added.
