Monsoon Active Again! IMD Issues Very Heavy Rain Warning For Odisha; Check Here

Bhubaneswar After a weak phase, the southwest monsoon is likely to revive in Odisha with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting heavy rains in parts of the state from Monday onwards.

According to the midday bulletin, yellow warning of heavy rainfall has been issued for one or two places in Keonjhar ,Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and Jajpur districts till 8.30 am on Tuesday. Many places in the state are also likely to experience light to moderate rain. There is also a warning of thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar ,Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Sambalpur and Balangir.

Heavy rain may continue for another 4 days with heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on August 16 and again in Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Bargarh, Sonepur and Sambalpur on August 17. There will be little change in the weather conditions thereafter, the weather agency said.

Notably, a few places had received rainfall on Sunday under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the neighbourhood, which has now merged with the cyclonic circulation over south Bangladesh & neighbourhood.

The revival of monsoon will give a much-needed push to agricultural activities hit due to scanty rains since August 2.

According to the MeT office, Odisha has recorded 664.5 mm rainfall against its normal value of 724.8 mm till August 14 this monsoon season. “During this period, 11 districts were deficient, 1 in excess and the rest 18 districts were in the normal category.” The deficit districts include Khurda, Puri and Cuttack.
