New Delhi: Even as the suspense over next Delhi chief minister lingers on, preparations are reportedly underway at the iconic Ramlila Maidan for the oath-taking ceremony.
The next chief minister of Delhi, along with the council of ministers, is expected to take the oath around 4.30 pm on February 20, Hindustan Times, quoting party sources.
Senior Delhi BJP leaders visited the Ramlila Ground on Tuesday to review preparations. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva and BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh shared that Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena is overseeing the arrangements, the report added.
The BJP is planning a grand ceremony, which is likely be attended by senior BJP leaders, including chief ministers from BJP-ruled states, to celebrate their historic victory after 27 years in the national capital.
Sources told CNN-News18 that the saffron party may invite former chief ministers of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi for its oath-taking ceremony.
However, the saffron party, which pulled a dramatic victory in the Assembly polls by winning 48 of the 70 seats on February 5, is yet to convene a legislative party meeting to choose its leader for the chief minister’s post.
Notably, Kejriwal was the first and only Delhi chief minister to have taken oath at Ramlila Maidan, where a rally of the anti-corruption movement, widely referred to as Anna Andolan, was held. Jayaprakash Narayan addressed his last rally from here before begin arrested after the Emergency was imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
