Bhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of BJP has planned to organise “Gan Gan Chala, Ghar Ghar Chala Abhiyan” (go to villages and houses campaign) from April 6 to 14.
Announcing about the programme at a presser in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, national vice-president of BJP’s OBC Morcha Krishna Gaur lambasted the BJD government under Chief Minister Naveen for neglecting the people of the other backward classes (OBCs) in the state during its 23-year rule.
“The backward classes form about 54% of Odisha’s total population, but the state government has failed to ensure proper education, healthcare, jobs and reservations in the elections to local and urban bodies,” the BJP leader rued.
She alleged that the state government has made a constitutional body like Odisha State Commission for Backward Classes totally powerless.
“Though the Central government has ensured 27% reservation for the OBCs in education and employment, the state government is not enforcing it,” she said, adding that the BJP will carry on its fight till the reservation is ensured for the backward classes in the state.
Krishna sought to know why the state government is not conducting door-to-door-survey to collect detailed data of the backward classes like other states.
“While the governments in other states are spending crores of rupees for welfare of the OBCs, the Odisha government has left this class to wallow in neglect,” she noted.
The BJP would launch the “Gan Gan Chala” campaign on April 6 on the occasion its foundation day. It would culminate on Ambedkar Jayanati on April 14.
