Nuapada: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Jay Dholakia on Saturday filed his nomination papers for the by-election to Nuapada Assembly constituency in Odisha.
Son of late BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia, Jay went to the office of the Returning Officer in a large procession that started at Khariar Road and passed through the town.
He submitted his nomination papers in presence of senior party leaders, including BJP state president Manmohan Samal, Ministers Rabinarayan Naik and Ganesh R Singhkhuntia and several sitting MLAs. Former state BJP president Basant Panda was also present.
Jay, who had joined the BJP ahead of the bypoll, expressed confidence that the party’s strong grassroots support will lead to a decisive victory.
Notably, the Nuapada by-poll has been necessitated following the demise of his father, Rajendra Dholakia, on September 8.
The filing of nomination papers for the by-election will continue until October 20, while scrutiny is scheduled for October 22. Candidates may withdraw their nominations by October 24.
Voting for the by-election is scheduled to be held on November 11. Vote counting will be done on November 14 and the entire election process will conclude by November 16.
